CLEAN-India, is an acronym which stands for Community Led Environment Action Network. Like the name suggests, it is a platform for green crusaders to connect with each other to Act, create Awareness and Assess. This is where you can let your voice be heard by those who shape our lives… A space where you can interact with NGOs, Local Urban Bodies, Policy Makers and like-minded enthusiasts to ideate and strive towards creating sustainable cities…A space where you create new trends for promoting a healthy, environment friendly way of life.

EVOLUTION:

CLEAN-India programme evolved after DA’s experience with the Delhi Environment Action Network (DEAN) programme, which began in September 1996.

From a small group of teachers and students (a nucleus of two teachers and four students per school) of about 10 schools, the action force has gained momentum and now has over 60 schools as CLEAN-India members covering the entire metropolitan area of Delhi and the adjoining cities of Noida and Gurgaon.

The programme aims to build a core group of student leaders who drive this movement by inspiring other students, passing their knowledge and experiences while expanding the movement into communities.

OUR OUTREACH:

                                            

Today, the programme has moved much beyond the boundaries of Delhi where it took roots. In collaboration with NGOs, the programme has taken roots in 78 other towns and cities extending from Ranikhet in the North to Nagercoil in the South. The programme has also graduated from schools to college-going youth and young professionals. Now, along with CLEAN Schools, we also have in our network CLEAN Colleges, young professionals and college students as CLEAN Ambassadors. We are adding new links and members to our CLEAN Network everyday.

OUR ACHIEVEMENTS:

• 4000 children trained in environmental assessment and improvement activities

• More than 200 water quality monitoring stations established in India.

• Water and Sanitation concerns addressed in 200 schools

• Partnered with Delhi Govt. in doubling green cover of Delhi from 10% to 20%

• Designated as Earth Charter Affiliate for India

• Associated with Central Pollution Control Board to mutually assist and strengthen existing initiatives

• CLEAN-India website won the Manthan award for the best e-content on environment.
